About the position

The Groundskeeper position is a vital role within the district, responsible for maintaining the exterior of school buildings and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and pleasant environment for students and staff. The Groundskeeper will report directly to the Head Groundskeeper and the Director of Buildings & Grounds Operations, taking on tasks that are essential for the upkeep and security of the district's properties. This includes general maintenance duties, monitoring grounds conditions, and performing repairs as needed. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all areas are well-maintained and that any deficiencies are reported promptly to the Head Groundskeeper. In addition to routine maintenance, the Groundskeeper will be involved in setting up fields for athletic events and other activities, ensuring that the grounds are prepared and safe for use. The position also entails maintaining an inventory of supplies necessary for grounds care and communicating any restock needs to the Head Groundskeeper. The Groundskeeper is expected to follow district policy guidelines and assist with emergency situations that may arise on the exterior grounds. The working conditions for this role can be challenging, as employees may be exposed to various hazards, including biohazard waste, extreme temperatures, and chemicals. Therefore, adherence to OSHA standards and safety protocols is crucial. The physical demands of the job are significant, requiring the ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks that involve bending, climbing, and using various tools and equipment. Responsibilities

  • Performs exterior grounds maintenance and care to ensure a safe and pleasant appearance of the district buildings.
  • Performs repairs on exterior and interior district building & grounds assets to the extent of his/her ability.
  • Monitors exterior grounds conditions of the district's properties and reports deficiencies to the Head Groundskeeper.
  • Performs field set up and care for athletic and other events.
  • Assists in maintaining supply inventory for all district exterior grounds care and communicates re-stock needs to the Head Groundskeeper.
  • Recommends products and policy changes to increase efficiency and reduce expenses.
  • Follows district policy guidelines.
  • Assists with emergency exterior grounds issues.
  • Assists with maintaining maintenance records of district groundskeeping vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs routine repairs and cleaning of the district groundskeeping vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School degree, GED, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the basic principles and maintenance of powered equipment.
  • Demonstrated positive customer service skills.
  • Experienced in basic P.C. operation relating to email, internet, and work order systems.
  • Capable of working cooperatively and congenially with other employees and supervisors.
  • Understanding of and ability to act as a confidential employee regarding staff and students.
  • Motivated, energetic, timely, respectful and a strong proven work ethic.

Benefits

  • Starting pay at $25.78/hr (Base Pay) + $0.38/hr (Custodian Grounds Additional Pay)
