About the position

The Groundskeeper at Rite of Passage plays a crucial role in maintaining the aesthetic and functional aspects of the grounds and facilities. This position involves a variety of tasks related to landscaping, maintenance, and general upkeep of the site. The Groundskeeper is responsible for performing weed control, planting, feeding, watering, and pruning all bushes and other plants, as well as maintaining grass areas. A significant part of the role includes ensuring that all site sprinkler systems are operational and that timing controls are adequate, particularly during the growing season from March through October. In addition to landscaping duties, the Groundskeeper may assist with maintenance work consistent with their abilities. This includes a wide range of tasks such as general building maintenance, minor electrical repairs, drywall repairs, painting, and plumbing tasks. The Groundskeeper is expected to respond to emergency calls and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment throughout the facility. They will also be involved in new construction and remodeling work as needed, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. The role requires the Groundskeeper to maintain a safe environment for both staff and students, acting as a positive role model and mentor. They are expected to treat others with respect, confront negative behavior, and support confrontations when necessary. Participation in special functions and company events is also part of the job, along with completing required reports and documentation. Overall, the Groundskeeper is integral to the smooth operation of the facility, contributing to a positive and safe environment for all.

Responsibilities

  • Performs weed control, plants, feeds, waters, and prunes all bushes and other plants and grass areas located on site.
  • Maintains all site sprinkler systems and ensures all sprinklers are in good working order and timing controls are adequate (March through October).
  • Assists with duties associated with the Maintenance Worker position, including general building maintenance, changing light bulbs, minor electrical repairs, and more.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment throughout the facility.
  • Responds to all emergency calls on the radio.
  • Completes required reports and documentation in a timely manner and advises management of any problematic situations.
  • Ensures the safety, health, and welfare of staff and students at all times.
  • Acts as a positive role model and mentor for both staff and students.
  • Participates in Site, Region, and/or Company events as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Must possess a current State Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years if required to operate a company vehicle.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence; proficient in the use of computers.
  • Ability to work the designated schedule with the possibility of a varied schedule and overtime.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a multi-task environment.
  • Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and rapidly changing business conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of experience in commercial lawn maintenance.
  • 1 year of experience in groundskeeping.
