Group Exercise Instructor

About the position

Instruct group exercise classes according to the guidelines set forth by the YMCA of the USA and the Director of Group Exercise. The YMCA of Greater Brandywine is a non-profit organization committed to nurturing the potential of every child, promoting healthy living, and fostering social responsibility through life-changing programs for all.

Responsibilities

• Conduct group exercise classes and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous and professional manner.
• Be a positive YMCA role model with an enthusiastic attitude.
• Ensure all scheduled classes will be held, and sub coverage secured.
• Start and end classes on time.
• Greet participants and learn their names.
• Take class attendance.
• Familiarize yourself with Upace Group Ex technology including sub tracking system, class contact feature, and class cancellation.
• Check and respond in a timely fashion to your YMCA email.
• Identify participants' limitations and adapt classes and/or provide modifications accordingly.
• Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with your class.
• Promote a healthy lifestyle.
• Attend advanced training workshops offered throughout the year by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (or another co-op member YMCA).
• Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year.
• Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• At least 1 year of participation in group exercise class(es) required.
• Possess and maintain at least one current Group Exercise certificate of completion or specialty certificate from a reputable organization for each specialized group modality.
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
