About the position

The Group Leader at Goddard Amelia Earhart Elementary is responsible for providing direct service to participants in licensed school-age childcare programs. This role involves serving as a positive role model for youth, leading activities, and ensuring a welcoming environment for children and parents. The Group Leader engages with children, promotes healthy interactions, and supports their development while maintaining effective communication with parents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Attend all mandatory staff meetings and in-service hours.
• Lead program activities, supervise routines, and encourage youth participation.
• Remain actively engaged with youth throughout the program, focusing on building relationships and being a positive role model.
• Set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcements.
• Support and guide youth in conflict resolution with respect to all involved.
• Maintain good public relations with parents and host building administrators.
• Create a welcoming environment for all participants.
• Communicate any issues or concerns to the Site Director in a timely manner.
• Follow reporting procedures for suspected child abuse.
• Engage in the YMCA annual campaign, including solicitation of donations and fundraising activities.
• Maintain open communication with supervisors regarding training needs and performance feedback.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 18
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision, and values
• Attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
• Complete Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid training
• Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch
• Understand and abide by all policies and procedures set forth by the association

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting
• Knowledge of child development principles
