About the position

The Group Leader - Pheresis is responsible for overseeing the pheresis procedure and plasma collection process, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FDA guidelines. This role involves direct interaction with donors, educating them about the donation process, monitoring their safety, and managing the donor flow to optimize efficiency. The Group Leader also provides technical training to staff, maintains equipment, and ensures accurate data recording in the electronic donor information management system.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
  • Conduct venipuncture to initiate the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance and make necessary corrections to expedite donation and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic products, screening processes, and center policies, ensuring all questions are answered accurately and professionally.
  • Monitor donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff as needed.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
  • Provide guidance and technical training to donor floor staff as required.
  • Monitor donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and address any backlog.
  • Perform equipment calibrations and maintenance as outlined in SOPs, resolving complex alarms or donor issues as needed.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and document incidents appropriately.
  • Change supply lot numbers in the electronic donor information management system when necessary.
  • Support center management with staff scheduling and resolve minor donor relations issues.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as per SOPs.
  • Understand policies related to hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies are available.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies, promoting safety in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 18 months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Specialized medical or phlebotomy training preferred.
