The Group Vice President of Operations will play a crucial role in this mission by leading the clinical and nonclinical functions of a Population Health Business Group within designated geographical regions. This position is pivotal in driving business growth and ensuring positive patient outcomes within the Somatus Value-Based Kidney Care delivery and prevention models. The Group Vice President will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations and will be responsible for providing thoughtful leadership throughout the organization regarding population health strategies. This includes reducing unnecessary utilization, managing total cost of care (TCOC), and ensuring compliance with client service level agreements (SLAs). The leader will also be accountable for meeting market EBITDA budgets, generating cost savings, and executing on proper resource utilization. This role requires a strong focus on building relationships with community providers and contracted Value-Based Care partners to achieve quality and utilization targets. In addition to operational responsibilities, the Group Vice President will coach, mentor, and counsel clinical and non-clinical managers and team members to meet expected performance criteria. The position also involves collaborating with various departments, including finance, clinical, and business development, to create and implement effective population health operational plans. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in healthcare operational management, particularly in population health, and will be adept at leading diverse teams to achieve strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • P&L responsibility for the group, consisting of division directors and managers who are responsible for managing the total cost of care for their geographical regions.
  • Drive successful platform margin for the group geographies and ensure compliance with all client SLAs.
  • Lead the success of Value-Based Care Management in their geography.
  • Develop and implement phases of Somatus' Population Health Management strategy for defined geography, including health strategy prevention, education, and health outreach, using metrics to drive execution.
  • Build on Somatus' health equity vision and plan for increased access to affordable healthcare for low-income and at-risk patient populations.
  • Partner with matrix leaders (including finance, clinical, business development, and new product innovation) to create and implement population health operational plans.
  • Accountable for meeting market EBITDA budget, as well as generating cost savings and executing on proper resource utilization.
  • Work closely with Product Innovation and Clinical Leadership to understand the future needs for healthcare delivery models in Somatus' markets and sites of care.
  • Manage reporting against population health metrics, in collaboration with Technology's Informatics and Analytics leadership, to ensure accurate outcome measurement.
  • Coach, mentor, and counsel clinical and non-clinical managers and team members to meet expected performance criteria.
  • Cultivate strong community relations with community providers (PCPs and specialists) and facilities (acute care, LTACH, SNF, Acute Inpatient Rehab).
  • Drive relationships with contracted Value-Based Care provider partners to achieve quality and utilization of contracted targets.
  • Ownership of patient engagement metrics, strategies, and tactics.
  • Work with local team and corporate to identify and implement innovative approaches to drive net savings and improve documentation.
  • Recruit, hire, manage, and retain a high-performing team at all levels.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with health plan business and clinical counterparts.
  • Serve as the operations support for the health plan relationship, including but not limited to leading Joint Operating Committee meetings, attending key executive meetings, and serving as a partner for operational needs as they arise.
  • Collaborate with the clinical and operational leadership to plan and execute initiatives to continuously improve the clinical delivery model.
  • Monitor all metrics using KPIs and identify opportunities for process improvements and/or staff education to produce optimal outcomes.
  • Appropriately escalate management issues and risks to the Senior Vice President, Field Operations.
  • Participate with senior management on special projects/initiatives.
  • Maintain working knowledge of healthcare regulations and health plan policies to ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to identifying technology strategy, investments, and platforms needed to support population health-centric goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health management, business administration, or other industry-related field; preferably a Master's degree in public health, health management, or business.
  • Ten (10) years of Population Health and healthcare operational management experience required, 3-5 years at the VP level preferred.
  • Proven track record of reducing unnecessary utilization and TCOC.
  • Experience managing a $200M healthcare P&L minimally across multiple states and having direct KPIs and accountability toward a P&L.
  • Experience working in a high-growth organization.
  • Six Sigma certification or background preferred.
