About the position

The Accountant position within the Global Services Department aims to provide professional accounting support and training to missions worldwide, ensuring the safeguarding of funds for the Church's religious mission. This role involves applying accounting principles to analyze financial operations, prepare reports, and perform internal audits, contributing to the Church's mission of serving its members and leaders effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate general ledger file maintenance for accurate financial statement presentations.
  • Reconcile accounts and ensure all outstanding items are cleared.
  • Prepare special studies and reports for various departments as required.
  • Prepare journal entries and adjustments to correct errors.
  • Analyze budget requests and explain changes due to increased costs or program changes.
  • Consolidate accounting information for accounting statements and summaries.
  • Review expenditures against budget and perform necessary reconciliations and investigations.
  • Assist in preparing financial estimates and expense reports.
  • Draft correspondence regarding discrepancies requiring investigation or action.
  • Review and monitor invoices for payment exceeding defined dollar amounts.
  • Audit project accounts for compliance and communicate status with relevant parties.
  • Assist in evaluating and motivating employees under supervision.
  • Coordinate accounting matters with other departments and divisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management is required.
  • A minimum of four to five years of professional accounting experience is required.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Church accounting systems is preferred.
  • Graduate degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA, or CPA may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Ability to analyze complex accounting problems and propose system changes is necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • CMA, CPA, or MBA preferred.
  • Familiarity with various standard Church accounting reports is beneficial.
  • Good understanding of Church financial policies and procedures.
