About the position

The Legal Secretary for the Guardian ad Litem Office plays a crucial role in providing administrative support to attorneys within the organization. This position involves a variety of clerical duties, including composing correspondence, maintaining filing systems, and managing travel arrangements. The Legal Secretary must handle sensitive information with discretion and work independently under the supervision of the Supervising Attorney.

Responsibilities

  • Compose and type correspondence, detailed reports, and memoranda using a personal computer.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive office filing system.
  • Prepare travel arrangements and schedule meetings for attorneys.
  • Prepare materials for supervisor's use and assist in various administrative tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive information and exercise discretion in communications.

Requirements

  • Must have a standard high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of administrative support experience, with one year in a Legal Secretary or comparable position preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, two-year college, or vocational school may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a legal environment is preferred.
  • Ability to respond patiently with the general public.
