About the position

The Guest Engagement Educator at the North Carolina Zoo is responsible for creating and delivering engaging educational programs focused on conservation, animal welfare, and wildlife science. This role involves researching, designing, and evaluating guest engagement experiences, as well as training and presenting live animals during educational programs for various audiences. The educator will work collaboratively with the education team to enhance the zoo's educational offerings and ensure effective communication of program content.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, coordinate, and evaluate new guest engagement experiences and educational programs.
  • Prepare and deliver public programs using live animals.
  • Facilitate public talks using biofacts and live animals.
  • Evaluate and analyze education programs for effectiveness.
  • Train, supervise, coach, and evaluate interns, volunteers, and seasonal education staff.
  • Serve as a resource for staff, educators, and community members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a natural science program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in the development and presentation of natural science interpretive and educational programs.
  • Proficiency in public speaking and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and presenting engaging public programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conservation education or environmental education.
  • Knowledge of natural history and wildlife science.
