Guest Relations Specialist

About the position

The Guest Relations Specialist at Howard University plays a crucial role in executing impactful events that align with the university's mission. This position focuses on providing a high-quality and welcoming experience for guests at university events, ensuring that all logistical aspects are handled efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and execution of planning and day-of materials for university events.
• Create guest lists, invitations, programs, place cards, name tags, and seating arrangements.
• Serve as a pre-event point of contact regarding registration and as an on-site representative for guests.
• Manage guest check-in, direct guests to their seats, and provide information as needed during events.
• Coordinate all guest-related logistics and outreach efforts, and assist in post-event evaluations.

Requirements

• Associates or bachelor's degree required or a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully under stress.
• Demonstrated familiarity with guest relations and event planning principles, requirements, and procedures.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to establish priorities.
• Ability to manage complex projects and multiple work streams.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with Microsoft Suite and technology specific to event planning, including event design software and guest list management.
• Ability to compose written materials and manage social media.
