About the position
Our Guest Services Team is looking for outgoing and enthusiastic Temporary/Seasonal Guest Services Associates who love animals, enjoy working with children, and are excited about the opportunity to promote a positive guest experience by creating lasting memories at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in NW Washington, DC. Our Staff are passionate, energetic, and professional. Acting as a Zoo ambassador, you will exemplify general knowledge of exhibits, wildlife, and amenities while finding creative ways to inspire guests to support our mission through membership and donations. In this role, you will be responsible for greeting guests, scanning tickets, and providing information. You will also be involved in selling Zoo Guides, renting strollers and wheelchairs, and regulating traffic flow at the indoor exhibits. General park maintenance, including cleanliness and safety, will also be part of your duties. Candidates must be available for evenings, weekends, and holidays without exceptions. Guest Services Associates will be working outside under varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions, both hot and cold, and will be standing and walking for long periods of time. You may work in confined and limited spaces and must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Additionally, possessing and maintaining a valid United States driver's license is required.

Requirements
- At least 1 year of high-volume retail and/or customer service experience
- Superior customer service skills, with the ability to actively engage our guests
- Solid selling skills, with the ability to promote membership and donations
- The ability to think on your feet while being flexible, positive, and calm
- Cash handling
