Guest (Substitute) Custodian 2024-2025

About the position

The Guest (Substitute) Custodian is responsible for assisting the custodial staff in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for students and staff. This role involves performing various custodial tasks during the absence of the regular custodian, under the direct supervision of Guest Staff Services and Custodial Services. The Guest Custodian must manage daily assignments through Absence Management and collaborate with Guest Staff Services.

Responsibilities

• Assist custodial staff in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the building.
• Perform daily custodial tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning restrooms.
• Respond to office and staff requests, including setting up equipment like TVs and audio systems.
• Report maintenance needs and secure the building before leaving.
• Perform weekly duties including buffing floors, high dusting, and carpet cleaning.
• Manage energy functions such as turning off lights and unplugging water fountains.
• Consult with Supervising Building Custodian regarding school activities and cleaning needs.
• Respond to emergencies appropriately.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to pass the Physical Capacity Test (PCP).
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work as part of a team and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of asbestos information.
• Experience with mechanical operations.
