About the position

The Guidance Counselor Secondary: Career Development Facilitator is responsible for providing career services and education to students, ensuring effective coordination and delivery of career awareness, development, and exploration programs. This role involves working closely with teachers, school counselors, and students to promote quality career development and assist in the exploration of career options.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and present professional development workshops in career development and guidance to teachers, school counselors, and work-based constituents.
  • Coordinate and facilitate career skills educational lessons to students, including classroom instructional lessons and development courses.
  • Assist schools in promoting the goals of quality career development for students.
  • Help school counselors and students identify and access career information and resources.
  • Provide information to educators, parents, and students on career and technology education programs offered in the district.
  • Support students in exploring career clusters and selecting an area of academic focus.
  • Learn and promote career development opportunities within the district.
  • Attend continuing education programs on the certified career development facilitator curriculum.
  • Assist with the selection, administration, and evaluation of career interest inventories.
  • Help implement the district's student career plan or individual graduation plan.
  • Assist schools in planning and developing parent information on career development.
  • Coordinate career events, classes, and programming with school counselors and administration.
  • Coordinate community resources and citizens representing diverse occupations in career development activities.
  • Assist with the usage of computer-assisted career guidance systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • South Carolina certification as required for the position or eligible for appropriate certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Career Development Facilitator Endorsement.
  • Successful experience in Secondary Guidance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of successful work with teachers.
  • Proficiency with technology.

  • Experience in educational program development.
  • Knowledge of career development theories and practices.
