About the position

As a Level II Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer at Sierra Space, you will play a crucial role in designing and analyzing satellite hardware and software configurations. This position involves developing GNC algorithms, building and testing flight software, and creating simulations for various small satellite programs. Your work will ensure that customer requirements are met through data-driven decisions and effective product lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze satellite hardware and software configurations.
  • Develop and test GNC algorithms.
  • Build and test flight software for satellite programs.
  • Create and utilize design tools for simulations.
  • Evaluate and test new products and software throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Analyze satellite and constellation capabilities and mission concepts.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of mission effectiveness and balance objectives against costs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline with typically 2 or more years of relevant GNC experience.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, analysis, and simulation.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary design and development teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI US Government clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline with typically 4 or more years of relevant GNC experience.
  • Active TS/SCI US Government clearance.
  • Experience with system modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and STK.
  • Experience with C/C++ and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with navigation filters and fault detection algorithms.
  • Exposure to vehicle stability principles and control system design and analysis.
  • Experience with auto-code generation and RPO development and test.
  • Knowledge of the ramifications imposed on GNC design by RPO activities.
  • Experience with containerization and microservices.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
