About the position

The position at CNA involves analyzing client area requirements and processes, preparing application system specifications, and programming automated solutions or integrating applications to resolve business problems. The role focuses on designing or developing business applications and maintaining centrally developed systems, ensuring quality through code reviews, documentation, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates defined client area requirements and processes, including new enhancements or maintenance.
  • Designs and develops moderate to complex application program solutions.
  • Ensures quality of application solutions by performing code reviews, creating documentation, and implementing code.
  • Verifies program logic, performs defect root cause analysis, and completes unit and integration testing.
  • Participates in systems testing with other IT staff.
  • Assists with the high-level design of solutions and consults with the client area to analyze system requirements.
  • Identifies associated risks and resolves problems, acting as a liaison between clients and applications area.
  • Researches and evaluates new and/or alternative solutions, recommending the most efficient and cost-effective options.
  • Develops system specifications and procedures, integrating vendor applications as necessary.
  • Supports the implementation of the application into production and testing environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically a minimum of four years of application program development experience.
  • Broad knowledge of the system development life cycle and application program development alternatives.
  • Strong knowledge of client area's functions and systems.
  • Solid knowledge of application development support software packages.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of interface design and user-centered work methods.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal/external business partners.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and other business-related software systems or languages, including J2EE Java.
  • Proficiency in at least one higher-level programming language.

Nice-to-haves

  • Guidewire Policy Center experience is a plus.
  • Applicable certificates preferred.
