About the position

The Habilitation Aide plays a crucial role in supporting residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities by assisting with their habilitation needs. This position involves working under the direction of the Clinical Service Manager to provide maintenance range of motion, assist therapists, and ensure the availability and functionality of therapy and adaptive equipment. The aide will engage closely with residents and staff to meet individual habilitation goals as outlined in their Ohio Individual Support Plan (ISP).

Responsibilities

• Support the habilitation needs of residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Provide maintenance passive range of motion to specified residents within assigned team.
• Assist therapists in implementing resident goals written by physical, occupational, and speech therapists.
• Document progress appropriately regarding resident goals.
• Assist with weekly wheelchair clinic for all residents.
• Assist with therapeutic swimming activities.
• Perform wheelchair repairs as needed.
• Ensure adaptive equipment is available, in good working order, and labeled.
• Assist residents with generalized activities as required.
• Monitor and stay alert to the changing needs and conditions of residents at all times.
• Maintain a working knowledge of each resident's Individual Plan (IP) and use appropriate behavioral intervention strategies.
• Identify, report, and document pertinent information regarding residents to appropriate personnel.
• Demonstrate competence in safe lifting, positioning, and transferring of residents.
• Interact courteously and appropriately with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
• Participate in and attend various meetings and trainings as required.

Requirements

• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous healthcare experience required.
• Experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
