About the position

The Hair Salon Assistant/Receptionist position at Space Salon involves maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, booking appointments, and assisting stylists with various hair services. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently. Candidates must have a Cosmetology License or be enrolled in beauty school, with additional skills in esthetics and makeup being a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning of assigned areas, including dusting, mopping, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of garbage.
  • Organize towels, ensuring they are clean, folded, and neatly presented.
  • Maintain the appearance of all surfaces through floor cleaning.
  • Organize and clean tools, products, stations, kitchen, break room, stock room, and bathrooms.
  • Assist with inventory stock and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, reporting any shortages or needs for replenishment.
  • Greet clients, offer beverages, and shampoo clients, as well as perform masks and hair treatments.
  • Mix and apply color, perform touch-ups and color pull-throughs, and blow-dry hair.
  • Assist stylists with extension, toning, perming, and lightening services.
  • Learn color line and hair products to effectively recommend hair care for clients based on their needs.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and correctly book appointments.
  • Answer phone calls and client requests and questions.
  • Email clients, post on social media, and take pictures and videos to create content.
  • Perform cashiering duties and take payments from clients.

Requirements

  • MUST have a Cosmetology License or be currently enrolled in beauty school.
  • Proven experience of 1+ years in reception, cleaning, and/or assisting in a hair salon is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques and products used in housekeeping management.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Experience with receptionist duties such as answering phones, booking appointments, and cashiering.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  • Knowledge of color theory and application for root touch-ups and full single process color services.
  • Physical stamina to perform cleaning and stock room tasks that may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to carry/lift over up to 30 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Esthetician license and makeup experience.
