About the position

The school counselor at Hamilton International Middle School plays a crucial role in planning, organizing, and delivering a comprehensive guidance and counseling program that supports the academic, personal, social, and career development of all students. This position emphasizes the importance of advocating for equitable policies and practices while promoting a college and career culture within the school. The counselor will provide direct and indirect services, including structured lessons, individual counseling, and program planning, to enhance student outcomes based on national standards for school counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured lessons to help students attain competencies in academic, career, and personal/social domains.
  • Coordinate and provide large-group, classroom, small-group, and individual activities to assist students in establishing personal and future goals.
  • Provide responsive services to meet students' immediate needs, including short-term counseling and crisis response.
  • Consult and collaborate with other staff and community resources to support students' needs.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with district strategic goals.
  • Utilize data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and interventions.
  • Attend professional development sessions to enhance skills and implement district processes.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field.
  • Valid Washington Educational Staff Associate (ESA) School Counselor Certificate.
  • Experience with a comprehensive school counseling program and familiarity with the American School Counselor Association Framework.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-3 years' experience in a school counseling program.
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching and anti-racist practices.
