About the position

The Handler and Kennel Assistant at Mitten Dog Company is a part-time role focused on the care and well-being of canine and feline guests in a modern daycare and boarding facility. The position requires a strong commitment to animal welfare, with responsibilities including monitoring health, providing care, and ensuring a safe environment for the animals. Candidates must be available to work specifically on Thursdays and Sundays, with opportunities for additional overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and attention to animals in the kennel facility
• Clean kennels and other animal living areas as necessary
• Accompany and observe animals when in the play spaces
• Exercise and socialize animals to ensure their physical and mental well-being
• Monitor the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to management
• Assist incoming crew members with shift transition
• Evacuate all animals if an emergency occurs

Requirements

• Previous experience caring for animals is advantageous
• Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions consistently and accurately
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally
• Ability to arrive on-time and work in a fast-paced environment
• Physical stamina to perform lifting and manual labor as required
