About the position

The Hardware and Software Support position at the Steamship Authority involves configuring, supporting, and managing PCs, both hardware and software. The role requires providing front-line technical support, coordinating IT issues, and maintaining IT assets and inventory. The position emphasizes communication with users across all departments and collaboration with consultants and vendors to resolve technical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, support, and manage PCs including hardware and software.
  • Coordinate open IT issues with other IT team members for resolution.
  • Offer training and guidelines to all users.
  • Provide front line telephone technical support for level 1 and 2 support.
  • Refer issues requiring additional support to the department's HELPDESK.
  • Maintain tape libraries, including their rotation.
  • Manage IT assets and inventory using the department's inventory management system.
  • Work and communicate with all levels of users from all departments.
  • Collaborate with various consultants and vendors for problem reporting and solutions.
  • Maintain work order detail.
  • Meet deadlines and work independently within a team environment.
  • Support all levels of users in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Promote and support continuous improvement with the SQMS.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.
  • Work on-call as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a WAN environment.
  • Understanding and ability to perform computer technician tasks.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows both desktop and server.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft software.
  • Exceptional mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
