About the position

As a Hardware Application Engineer at Alstom, you will play a pivotal role in the development and integration of hardware products into larger wayside and vehicle systems. This position is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and offers a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in hardware, electronics, and circuits to ensure optimal interfacing with our products. You will be responsible for preparing comprehensive documentation for hardware subsystems, including their associated bills of materials, and presenting these subsystems to customers during design reviews. Your role will also involve collaborating with other engineering teams to enhance their understanding of hardware products and designs. In this position, you will analyze existing system architectures to identify connection points for our equipment within larger systems, ensuring that the correct interfaces are established. You will assist in the testing and configuration of our equipment, contribute to the elaboration of hardware specifications and architecture in collaboration with the Hardware Architect, and perform hardware integration of products. This includes describing technical choices and verifying compliance with input and output requirements through analysis, computations, models, simulations, or mock-ups. Additionally, you will define general plans for mechanical integration alongside Mechanical Engineers, create electrical schematics, and define the Bill of Materials. Ensuring that the hardware design can be manufactured, tested, and repaired will be a key responsibility, working closely with industrialization teams. You will also prepare laboratory development systems and setups for verification testing, manage hardware work products according to the Configuration Management Plan, and support hardware and software integration efforts.
