About the position

The Hardware/Chemistry Test Engineer II at Thermo Fisher Scientific plays a crucial role in the evaluation and testing of products throughout the Product Development stage, from initial concept to post-production. This position is integral to ensuring that products meet specific specifications and standards, contributing to innovative technology that aims to enhance the lives of millions. The engineer will be responsible for testing, validating, and comparing system-level interfaces to ensure that performance aligns with established specifications. This role not only involves hands-on testing but also requires analytical skills to identify and analyze questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in product performance. In addition to testing, the engineer will build new test procedures and cases for new functionalities, recommend program improvements or revisions as necessary, and establish benchmarks for product performance. Collaboration with manufacturing teams to develop FOQ protocols and training staff is also a key responsibility. The engineer will review and refine product documentation, install and maintain testing software programs, and respond to technical support inquiries. Accountability for the thoroughness and quality of test results is paramount, as the engineer will build, track, align, and communicate test plans, results, and analyses. Responsibilities

  • Test, validate, and compare system-level interfaces to ensure performance meets specifications.
  • Identify and analyze questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in product performance.
  • Build new test procedures and cases for new functionality.
  • Recommend program improvements or revisions as necessary.
  • Establish benchmarks for product performance.
  • Assist manufacturing in developing FOQ protocols and train staff.
  • Review and refine product documentation.
  • Install, maintain, and use testing software programs.
  • Respond to technical support inquiries.
  • Build, track, align, and communicate test plans, results, and analysis.
  • Be accountable for the thoroughness and quality of test results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a relevant field or two years equivalent experience.
  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a relevant field, or equivalent experience and/or training will be considered.
  • Academic training in chemistry and chemical engineering is desirable.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Applications, analytical instrument test methodology development, and automation.
  • Ability to follow specific test protocols and instructions.
  • Collaborative skills to work with other members of Test Engineering.
  • Ability to demonstrate failure and error conditions to Development Engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to define problems, collect data, and report valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Strong communication skills to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies.
