About the position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking a Components Engineer to join our Mission Systems Hardware Engineering Department. This role is critical in supporting the mechanical and electrical design, development, and production of Department of Defense (DoD) and Government Communications Systems. The Components Engineer will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplined team located in either Largo, FL or Marlborough, MA. The primary focus of this position is to ensure that all aspects of Parts Control and Standardization are effectively implemented and executed. In this role, the Components Engineer will be responsible for reviewing datasheets and comparing the technical characteristics of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components. This includes providing recommendations for potential alternate part replacements. The engineer will also generate piece part documentation for procurement purposes and submit required program reports. Additionally, the Components Engineer will provide support for Parts Obsolescence, which involves investigating and reporting on obsolescence issues, determining potential technical mitigations, and maintaining various databases related to component management. Candidates for this position should possess a solid understanding of detailed mechanical and electrical design layouts, as well as design documentation using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Some travel may be required for installation and design verification, with an estimated travel requirement of up to 5%. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of advanced communication systems that serve all branches of the US military.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a team member focusing on mechanical and electrical design of circuit cards and housings for communications systems.
  • Ensure implementation and execution of Parts Control and Standardization.
  • Review datasheets and compare technical characteristics of COTS components.
  • Provide recommendations for potential alternate part replacements.
  • Generate piece part documentation for procurement purposes.
  • Submit required program reports.
  • Provide support for Parts Obsolescence, including investigating and reporting on obsolescence issues.
  • Determine potential technical mitigations for obsolescence issues.
  • Maintain various databases related to component management.

Requirements

  • Background in components engineering, including guiding component selection.
  • Broad based Mechanical / Electrical Hardware engineering background.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field, or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of Tin Whisker Risk and Gold Embrittlement Risk.
  • Experience with Tin Whisker / Gold Embrittlement Mitigation Plans for military applications.
  • Familiarity with qualification requirements for military applications and Hardness Critical Items.
  • Experience analyzing technical alerts from GIDEP.org.
  • Working knowledge of Windchill Product Data Manager.
  • Familiarity with Valor, Mentor Graphics, Cadence, Allegro, ADS.
  • Experience with Raytheon EDM Parts Library Tools.
