About the position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking a dedicated Hardware Components Engineer to join our Mission Systems Hardware Engineering Department. This position is based in either Largo, FL or Marlborough, MA, and is integral to the design, development, and production of advanced communication systems for the U.S. military. As a Components Engineer, you will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on the mechanical and electrical design of circuit cards and their housings for communication systems. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that all aspects of Parts Control and Standardization are effectively implemented and executed. In this position, you will be responsible for reviewing datasheets and comparing the technical characteristics of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components. You will provide recommendations for potential alternate part replacements, generate piece part documentation for procurement, and submit required program reports. Additionally, you will support Parts Obsolescence by investigating and reporting on obsolescence issues, determining potential technical mitigations, and maintaining various databases. A solid understanding of detailed mechanical and electrical design layouts, as well as design documentation using Computer Aided Design tools, is essential for success in this role. Some travel may be required for installation and design verification, estimated at up to 5%.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring all aspects of Parts Control and Standardization are implemented and executed.
  • Review datasheets and compare technical characteristics of COTS components.
  • Provide recommendations for potential alternate part replacements.
  • Generate piece part documentation for procurement purposes.
  • Submit required program reports.
  • Provide Parts Obsolescence and troubleshooting support.
  • Investigate and report on obsolescence issues.
  • Determine potential technical mitigations for obsolescence.
  • Maintain various databases related to components engineering.
  • Collaborate with team members on mechanical and electrical design of circuit cards and housings.

Requirements

  • Background in components engineering, including guiding component selection.
  • Broad based Mechanical / Electrical Hardware engineering background.
  • Typically requires a degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field, or 6 years of relevant experience in absence of a degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of Tin Whisker Risk and Gold Embrittlement Risk.
  • Experience with Tin Whisker / Gold Embrittlement Mitigation Plans for military applications.
  • Experience analyzing technical alerts from GIDEP.
  • Working knowledge of Windchill Product Data Manager.
  • Familiarity with Valor, Mentor Graphics, Cadence, Allegro, ADS tools.
  • Experience with Raytheon EDM Parts Library Tools.
