Emerson's Process Systems and Solutions business develops automation products to streamline manufacturing processes. We are looking for students who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative environment at our location in Austin, TX. As a Hardware Design Engineer Summer Intern, you'll share in the satisfaction of delivering DeltaV products and solutions that help provide our customers with safer, more environmentally efficient manufacturing processes. We've revolutionized the control industry by extending digital information technologies to the plant floor of process manufacturers, including oil and gas, refining, chemical, life sciences, and alternative energy companies. In this role, your responsibilities will be: Collaborate with senior engineers to conceptualize, design, and develop injection molded and/or stamped metal components for new and existing products. Assist in the creation of 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to support the mechanical design process. Conduct feasibility studies and analysis to evaluate the manufacturability, functionality, and cost-effectiveness of injection molded and/or stamped metal designs. Participate in design reviews and provide input to optimize the design for manufacturability, performance, and quality. Support prototype development and testing activities such as shock and vibration on prototype assemblies. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving design and manufacturing issues related to custom components. Work in a challenging & fast-paced environment to investigate and resolve mechanical product issues.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university entering either the junior, senior or graduate year, pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical solutions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multi-functional teams.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong academic background in engineering principles, with coursework or projects related to injection molding design preferred.
  • Previous internship or coursework experience in injection molding design or related field is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of injection molding processes, materials, and tooling concepts.
