About the position

The PCB Layout Design Engineer at General Motors will play a crucial role in the development of next-generation Electronic Control Units (ECUs) for Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). This position involves leading the electrical design and integration of in-vehicle electronics, ensuring that products meet GM specifications and customer needs. The successful candidate will collaborate with various engineering teams and suppliers to achieve program milestones and optimize designs for performance and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and designing the physical layout of integrated circuits (ICs) or printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Conducting design rule checks (DRC) and design for manufacturability (DFM) checks to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Collaborating with circuit designers, system engineers, and packaging engineers to understand design requirements and constraints.
  • Selecting appropriate technology and processes for layout design based on project requirements.
  • Optimizing layout design for performance, power, area, and manufacturability with subject matter experts.
  • Supporting ECAD librarians in developing ECAD library parts that meet DFM and GM resiliency requirements.
  • Collaborating with component engineers and supply chain teams to select components for PCBA design.
  • Applying Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize PCBA design for efficient assembly processes.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and quality enhancement in PCBA manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Professional experience creating digital/analog HW interfaces including schematic creation and/or PCB layout, simulation & supportive documentation.
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in PCB layout design.
  • Experience in design & analysis tools like Mentor Graphics (schematic & layout).

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous industry experience with infotainment, telematics or connectivity.
  • 5 years or more experience in PCB layout design.
  • Knowledgeable in High speed Communication Buses (Ethernet, PCIe, SerDes...).
