About the position

The Hardware Design Engineer position at Belcan in Louisville, KY, involves leading and coordinating engineering projects related to hardware design. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical design principles and the ability to produce detailed schematics and layouts for electrical systems. The engineer will work closely with project teams and customers to ensure compliance with specifications and standards while providing support throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, coordinate and exercise functional authority for design, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects.
  • Analyze engineering schematics, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors.
  • Produce accurate and thoroughly self-verified electrical device and panel layouts; motor, control, I/O schematics, and bill of materials.
  • Review design for compliance with engineering specs, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Provide project support to the field engineers, project managers, purchasing and panel fabricators.
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
  • Use computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
  • Communicate with the project team regarding task completion status.
  • Designs and develops detailed layouts for electrical circuits, systems for power distribution, industrial control panels and industrial network architectures from examples and experience.
  • Interfaces with customers on an extensive basis for support to internal and external customers such as installation and commissioning support to design modifications needed to support project needs.
  • May direct and lead the work of others to oversee production of detailed schematics.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR related experience
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able to be approved for an airport security badge, pass a federal background check
  • Expert in designing in AutoCAD Electrical, with experience in HMI graphics, PLC programming, and Networking
  • Detail-oriented and organized, capable of performing reliable and accurate work while reviewing others' work
  • Ability to read and understand written specifications and contract drawings, developing complete designs that meet requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical equipment and local building codes such as UL508A, NEC and NFPA
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in hardware design engineering.
