About the position

The Hardware Design Engineer role involves executing silicon validation and characterization for high-speed D2D and SERDES interfaces at a leading technology company in Raleigh, NC. The engineer will develop test methods, collaborate with design teams, and analyze test results to ensure product performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Execute silicon validation and characterization of high-performance, high-speed, low-power CMOS D2D and SERDES silicon interfaces
  • Bring up, validate, and characterize high-speed D2D and SERDES blocks on new and existing silicon chips
  • Develop test methods to evaluate performance and determine operating margins of high-speed serial interfaces under various conditions
  • Collaborate with design teams to enhance testability and define test infrastructure logic
  • Write software routines in Python, C/C++, and similar languages to validate D2D and SERDES IPs, and work with software teams on driver integration
  • Analyze test results, document findings, and provide insights and recommendations for improvements

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of experience in silicon validation, characterization, or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Hands-on experience in silicon testing and characterization
  • Experience in high-speed D2D and SERDES architecture, test methodologies, and debugging
  • In-depth knowledge of high-speed D2D and SERDES architectures (e.g., NRZ, PAM4) and protocols
  • Proficiency with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and BERTs
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SERDES calibration and signal integrity
  • Familiarity with high-speed protocols (e.g., UCIe, Ethernet, PCIe)
  • Ability to write comprehensive test reports and analyze boundary conditions
