About the position

The Hardware Dev Engineer II position at Amazon Web Services (AWS) focuses on developing high-performance hardware for AWS Outposts, an on-premises version of AWS public cloud. This role is part of a dynamic team that emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and technical growth, allowing engineers to tackle complex challenges in cloud computing infrastructure. The position involves interfacing with customers, solving operational challenges, and working closely with vendors to ensure the delivery of top-tier hardware solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with internal and external customers to understand project requirements and facilitate system development.
  • Solve operational challenges to improve customer experience and develop systems for future designs.
  • Collaborate with vendors and ODM/JDM design teams to develop and manufacture products at scale.
  • Drive changes back into development to address systemic issues and build mechanisms for efficient infrastructure operation.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), or Computer Science (CS).
  • 3+ years of experience with complex server, storage, or network server designs.
  • 3+ years of experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, functional test procedures, and operational repair plans.
  • 3+ years of experience with debug and root cause analysis of PCIe, memory, storage subsystems, or networking.
  • Experience developing monitoring and alerting systems for production environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
  • Master's Degree in EE, CE, or CS.
  • Experience in motherboard design, PCB design including schematic capture, stackup, and circuit board layout.
  • Experience in server components architecture, power analysis, signal and power integrity, and system-level issue root cause analysis.
  • Platform debug experience with OS such as Linux/Unix and Windows.
  • Experience using hardware lab equipment such as digital scopes, logic analyzers, and soldering skills.
  • Proficiency in Python and UEFI scripting.
  • Experience with server technologies: BIOS, BMC, signal integrity, memory, storage, PCIe, thermal.
  • Experience with deploying and operating hardware and applications at scale.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
