About the position

The Hardware Developer - System Test Engineer at IBM plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of the next generation of IBM POWER processors and systems. This position involves collaboration with various engineering teams to define and implement manufacturing tests, contributing to the design and optimization of hardware systems. The role requires a deep understanding of processor behavior under different conditions and the ability to develop effective testing strategies to ensure product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Define manufacturing tests for the next generation IBM POWER system.
  • Collaborate with processor, memory, I/O, and systems teams to understand requirements and develop tests to verify specifications.
  • Utilize design documentation to develop IBM hardware and technology products including server systems.
  • Define and develop software tools for functional validation, module characterization, and system-level qualification.
  • Contribute to product quality deliverables that impact product development and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of hardware development and system bring-up methodologies (4+ years).
  • Proven experience in system characterization, verification, or validation.
  • Ability to manage workload stress and work with technical experts on developing effective tests.
  • Basic knowledge of computer architecture and systems design.
  • Strong analytical skills, debug experience, and a drive for failure analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree.
  • Coding skills in C, C++, Python.
  • Familiarity with the POWER processor micro-architecture.
  • Good understanding of processor power management.
  • Ability to work with hardware diagnostic equipment, scopes, DVM, analyzers, etc.
  • Ability to read schematics, board files, and technical documents.
  • Ability to collaborate with extended teams (thermal, power, manufacturing, design, firmware, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and drive test plans.
  • Demonstrated communication skills both written and spoken.
