About the position

The Hardware Development Engineer at VIAVI is responsible for designing electronic circuits and digital systems for next-generation avionics and radio test equipment. This role involves developing analog and digital hardware systems, including high-performance ADC and DAC interfaces, and working with RF transceivers and digital subsystems. The engineer will utilize general test equipment and design test boards to support testing and evaluation of components, while also contributing to process improvements and design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Design electronic circuits and digital systems for avionics and radio test equipment.
  • Develop analog and digital hardware systems including high-performance ADC and DAC interfaces.
  • Work with RF transceivers and digital subsystems.
  • Utilize general test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Design test boards or fixtures for board bring-up and PCBA testing.
  • Conduct basic scripting to support small test fixtures and evaluate critical components.
  • Research and select components to meet electrical engineering design needs.
  • Test designed circuits and document test results.
  • Identify technical root causes and suggest corrective actions for problems.
  • Provide estimates on design project efforts and execute designs to meet schedules.
  • Evaluate new technology options and suggest process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Computer Engineering (BSCE); Master's degree is a plus.
  • 2+ years of hardware design experience; 5+ years preferred.
  • Proficient in using ECAD tools such as Cadence or Mentor Graphics.
  • Experience with designs using switching power supplies, ADCs, DACs, and FPGAs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with power and signal integrity simulation, synthesis, and place-and-route tools preferred.
  • Experience with RF systems, avionics, communications, or test equipment design preferred.
