About the position

The Hardware Development Engineer at VIAVI is responsible for designing electronic circuits and RF systems for next-generation avionics and radio test equipment. This role involves the development of RF hardware systems, including filters, mixers, and high-speed DACs and ADCs, while utilizing general test equipment for testing and validation. The engineer will also engage in component selection, circuit testing, and process improvement, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Design electronic circuits and RF systems for avionics and radio test equipment.
  • Develop RF hardware systems including printed and lumped element filters, RF mixers, LNAs, and high-speed DACs and ADCs.
  • Use general test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Design test boards or fixtures for board bring-up and PCBA testing.
  • Research and select components to meet electrical engineering design needs.
  • Test designed circuits and document the test results.
  • Identify technical root causes and suggest corrective actions for problems.
  • Provide estimates on design project efforts and execute designs to meet schedules.
  • Evaluate new technology options and suggest process improvements during design reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent experience; Master's degree is a plus.
  • 2+ years of hardware design experience preferred.
  • Proficient in using ECAD tools such as Cadence or Mentor Graphics.
  • Basic skills in designing RF circuits.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Experience with power and signal integrity simulation, synthesis, and place-and-route tools preferred.
  • Experience with RF systems, avionics, communications, or test equipment design preferred.
