About the position

The Hardware Development Engineer for AWS Hardware Engineering is responsible for designing and developing server platforms and AWS-specific hardware components. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to execute product designs from concept to production, ensuring high performance, quality, and cost-effectiveness. The position is integral to the success of AWS's global infrastructure, focusing on innovative solutions that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design server platforms and AWS-specific hardware components.
• Collaborate with internal development teams and external suppliers to deliver new servers with industry-leading performance and quality.
• Drive execution in defining and delivering new products and services.
• Lead the integration and delivery of servers, supporting the development of automated monitoring and failure analysis services.
• Work closely with AWS software teams to tailor and operate server solutions for the AWS environment.
• Support the launch of servers into production and the operation of the server fleet.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 2+ years of experience in server level design for compute, storage, accelerator segment or other complex product design.
• 2+ years experience leading ODMs and other suppliers in the product development and manufacturing processes.
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
• Experience in board and server root cause analysis and resolution.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in complex product development such as servers, network switches, or other highly integrated devices with hardware, software, and service aspects.
• Expertise in early product definition and feature tradeoff analysis.
• Expertise in product development disciplines such as thermal, mechanical, power, FW/SW, reliability, and sustaining.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
• Proficient scripting, debug abilities, and Linux operations commands.
• Experience deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
• Experience leading hardware and software development engineering teams.
• Experience with hands-on debug of hardware systems such as with analyzers, oscilloscopes, and JTAG.
