About the position

This is an exciting role in the ThinkSystem Server Development organization that has a strong focus to be the #1 trusted IT Partner in the Datacenter market. The server hardware development engineer will be an integral member of a team responsible for developing innovative and complex server designs to meet customer and business needs. These organic designs provide exposure to the latest technologies from Lenovo and its development partners to meet market demands. The role also entails solving unique client challenges through the custom development of solutions. As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will engage in the entire lifecycle of server hardware development, from initial concept through to production. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and software validation teams, to ensure that the hardware meets the rigorous standards expected in the datacenter environment. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of Lenovo's server offerings, making it crucial to understand both the technical and business aspects of the projects you undertake. In this role, you will be expected to leverage your expertise in x86 or AMD architecture to validate complex designs, including CPUs, and to provide technical support for server hardware and software setups. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complicated hardware issues, ensuring that the development process runs smoothly and efficiently. Your passion for learning new technologies and skills will be essential as you adapt to the fast-paced and ever-evolving landscape of server technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative and complex server designs to meet customer and business needs.
  • Solve unique client challenges through custom development of solutions.
  • Set up server hardware and software and provide technical support for extended teams.
  • Triage and resolve complicated hardware issues in collaboration with other engineers.
  • Work effectively in both team environments and self-directed settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in x86 or AMD architecture and hardware development.
  • At least 2 years of experience performing functional validation of complex designs which include CPUs.
  • Proven ability to set up server hardware and software and provide technical support for extended teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in both a team environment and self-directed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Previous experience in FPGA code development and/or validation.
  • Experience in DC Power circuit design and/or PCIe bus design, simulation, and validation.
  • Experience performing signal integrity validation.
  • Proficiency in Linux/Windows Operating systems and OS virtualization.
  • Strong proficiency in shell scripting (BASH/Perl/Python and Windows Power Shell).
  • Demonstrated successful hardware design execution on a project with engineering team members located in multiple geographies.
