About the position

VIAVI Solutions is seeking an experienced Staff Hardware Engineer to contribute to the development of industry-leading communications test solutions. This role involves designing complex embedded systems for optical, wireless, and electrical networks, ensuring that products meet high-speed network interface requirements and adhere to EMC and safety standards. The successful candidate will collaborate with global R&D teams and adapt to a constantly evolving market, playing a crucial role in supporting customer success through innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex embedded systems with high-speed network interfaces or analog front ends.
  • Collaborate with global R&D teams to develop communications test solutions.
  • Ensure product designs meet EMC and safety requirements.
  • Utilize schematic and PCB layout tools, preferably Cadence Allegro.
  • Employ simulation and modeling tools including PSPICE and signal integrity tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE), Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering (BSCE), or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering (MSCE).
  • 4+ years of related experience in high-speed multi-gigabit digital system design.
  • Experience with power supply design for embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with PLLs and system clock design.
  • Proficiency in designing products that meet EMC and safety requirements.
  • Experience with schematic and PCB layout tools, preferably Cadence Allegro.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools including PSPICE and signal integrity tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with optical interfaces and modules (SFPs, QSFPs).
  • Knowledge of telecommunications is a plus.
  • Experience in FPGA design and microprocessors is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to convey ideas effectively across global teams.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience as a project lead is a plus.
  • Knowledge of EMC/Safety standards for test and measurement equipment.
