About the position

Apple is seeking an enthusiastic Hardware Development Engineer to join the Mac Engineering Team. This role involves designing, implementing, testing, and debugging electrical subsystems, as well as developing test and failure analysis procedures to ensure high product quality. The engineer will work on concept and feature development, rapid prototyping, and product integration, utilizing skills in computer system architecture and various circuit design techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and debug electrical subsystems.
  • Develop test and failure analysis procedures to ensure product quality.
  • Conduct schematic design and component data-sheet analysis and selection.
  • Coordinate layout of multilayer PCBs including HDI and fine pitch BGAs.
  • Drive design tradeoffs across manufacturing, test, thermal, performance, reliability, and battery life.
  • Prototype bring-up, debug, functional verification, and electrical characterization using advanced lab tools.
  • Review designs of factory test fixtures and analyze factory-scale data.
  • Debug manufacturing problems and provide feedback for corrective actions.
  • Forecast and plan design time to meet schedules and communicate status on issues.

Requirements

  • BS in electrical or computer engineering required, MS preferred.
  • Experience with schematic and PCB physical design using Cadence Concept and Allegro or similar CAD tools.
  • Design experience in digital logic, power conversion, and high-speed serial interfaces.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience, preferably in high-volume consumer electronics.

  • Lab skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and electronic loads.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Command line interface and scripting skills.
  • Deep expertise in CPU or GPU microarchitecture, power management, and analog design.
  • Statistical data analysis and visualization skills.
