About the position

The Hardware Engineer position at Broadcom focuses on the design of printed circuit board assemblies for commercial-grade server and cloud system applications. The role involves providing technical leadership by integrating customer requirements, industry standards, and internal quality systems, with a strong emphasis on high-speed signal routing and compliance with major computer industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive analysis of marketing, industry, and customer requirements.
• Interface with ASIC controller designers, program management, component vendors, and manufacturing to implement designs.
• Design schematics including selection of digital logic, power, clocking, PSOC, memory, IO, visual indicators, and connectors.
• Coordinate system level design and simulation including thermal and mechanical elements.
• Coordinate and direct the PCB layout including specifications, impedance calculations, stack up, initial placement, material selection, and tool verification.
• Oversee and/or perform signal integrity simulation for functional interfaces and power.
• Develop scripts in tools such as Python to streamline and automate the design process.
• Build test fixtures with data acquisition systems and programming.
• Perform unit and system testing of prototype designs using high-speed scopes, TDR, and/or VNA equipment.
• Provide post-production product support including manufacturing database updating and maintenance.

Requirements

• BSc. in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of experience in a computer-related job role; OR MSc. in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of experience in a computer-related job role.
• Strong working knowledge of major computer industry standards such as PCIe Express, Ethernet, and Fibre Channel.
• Mastery of Cadence Design and Layout Tool Suite.
• Experience with simulation tools such as HyperLynx 8.0, Ansoft SIWave, Ansys HFSS, ADS, Sigrity, and Polar.
• Proficiency in MS Office tool suite.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with high-speed signal routing and design.
• Familiarity with environmental testing equipment such as ESD guns and environmental chambers.
