About the position

In this role, you will maintain and optimize the specialized equipment used in the cutting-edge development and production of our quantum devices. You will work in equipment procurement, upgrades, maintenance, stabilization, vendor management, and work separately and as part of a collaborative team in a multi-location, research-driven environment. The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs to ensure the optimal performance of fabrication equipment.
  • Evaluate, research, scope and procure new process equipment tailored to the manufacturing of quantum processors, as well as contribute to the characterization of this equipment.
  • Manage the installation, modification, and upgrades of existing equipment and oversee and collaborate with external vendors.
  • Work at multiple locations, including our primary facility and a multi-user research facility, ensuring consistency and seamless equipment operations.
  • Analyze equipment performance and reliability to support the needs of the Microfabrication Process team and develop preventative maintenance plans to maximize equipment uptime.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience working directly with semiconductor fabrication equipment.
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing photolithography, vacuum and plasma tools, wafer and wire bonders, and other fab equipment.
  • Experience working with semiconductor equipment, chemicals, and electrical test systems.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment and following protocols and regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with troubleshooting vacuum, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, and software systems, ideally down to the component level.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical measurements (e.g., oscilloscopes, generators, calipers, etc.) and CAD software (e.g., KiCad, Solidworks, AutoCAD).
  • Experience with carpentry, machining, welding, brazing, soldering, and other joining methods.
  • Knowledge of managing construction-related projects within the production or Research and Development (R&D) environment.
  • Familiarity with power tools and Computer numerical controls (CNCs).
  • Familiarity with architectural drawings and building control software.
