About the position

As a Hardware Engineer I (Intern) at Cisco Systems, you will be part of a dynamic team that designs the hardware that powers the internet. You will engage in various product categories, including cloud, social, mobile/wireless, video, VoIP, big data, collaboration, web, Internet of Things, routing, switching, IPv6, data center, HPC, and Telepresence. Your contributions will have a global impact, affecting billions of users worldwide. In this internship, you will collaborate with peers on projects that have real-world implications, from processes to manufacturing, ensuring a standout customer experience with Cisco products and services. You will take innovative ideas from the drawing board to reality, working with multi-functional teams to determine infrastructural needs and product specifications. Additionally, you will gain hands-on experience by working directly with customers, immersing yourself in their networks, and collaborating on impactful projects. This role will allow you to learn from industry professionals and contribute to network infrastructures, delivering business and technology solutions across data, security, mobility, and cloud. Your work will span the entire product development lifecycle, from circuit design to large system design, and you will see your contributions through to high-volume manufacturing. The internship offers creative opportunities in areas such as ASIC Design and Verification, System/Board Design, Circuit Board Layout, Hardware Automation, Validation and Test, Signal Integrity, and Power Design.

Responsibilities

  • Impact product development from circuit design to large system design.
  • Collaborate with peers on projects that have real-world impact.
  • Work with multi-functional teams to determine infrastructural needs and product specifications.
  • Gain hands-on experience with customer networks and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Contribute to hardware design and testing processes.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of hardware engineering principles and experience with hardware design tools and software (e.g., CAD tools, simulation software).
  • Familiarity with hardware testing and debugging techniques.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work toward long-term goals.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work collaboratively across business groups.
  • Legally able to live and work in the country for which you're applying, without visa support or sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in establishing and sustaining positive relationships with an extended team.
