About the position

The Hardware Engineer I position at Torc involves developing, testing, and deploying advanced robotic systems for autonomous trucks. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software components, with a strong emphasis on hands-on commissioning activities and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize hardware components for autonomous trucks, including sensors and control systems.
  • Create and execute software verification plans to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Assist in the integration of hardware and software systems, conducting system-level testing for validation.
  • Participate in commissioning activities, including system calibration and performance tuning of robotic trucks.
  • Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation to support compliance and future reference.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide support during commissioning and deployment phases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in hardware engineering with a focus on software verification and validation.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing hardware systems integrated with complex software applications.
  • Hands-on experience with software testing methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, and C++ for test script development.
  • Strong understanding of electronic circuits, signal processing, and embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols like CAN, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of software quality standards and safety regulations for autonomous vehicles.
  • Experience with robotic operating systems (e.g., ROS) and simulation environments.
  • Certification in software testing or quality assurance (e.g., ISTQB Certified Tester).
  • Familiarity with safety-critical system development standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools.
