About the position

The Hardware Engineer III position at BCforward is a hands-on role focused on operating and developing optical hardware prototypes. The engineer will work with firmware and data analytics, requiring a strong background in hardware and software engineering. This contract position is based in Redmond, WA, and is expected to last for 12 months, starting on December 16, 2024.

Responsibilities

• Operate optical hardware prototypes including PCB boards, electrical flexes, cameras, and LEDs.
• Utilize existing software tools, running command line scripts and GUI, and demonstrate familiarity with on-demand servers.
• Perform basic software and hardware troubleshooting, including understanding command line scripts and practices like restarting hardware.
• Train moderators on how to use prototype devices.
• Drive to and from campus to vendor sites for weekly checks on prototype devices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in hardware and firmware development with a strong data analytics background.
• Familiarity with common programming languages and commands.
• Strong software skills, with a preference for candidates with an optics background.
• Degree in Software or Electrical Engineering is required.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with optical hardware prototypes.
• Familiarity with command line scripts and GUI tools.
