About the position

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated is seeking a visionary Hardware Engineer Lead to join our team in Milpitas, CA. This position is pivotal in developing high-speed digital communication products that are essential for various industrial growth markets, including aerospace, defense, and medical imaging. The successful candidate will lead a team of hardware design engineers, focusing on board and system-level design, PCB layout, and high-speed digital circuit design. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of high-end systems, including high-speed simulation and layout guidance, as well as collaboration with mechanical engineers for enclosure design and associated sub-assemblies. As a Hardware Engineer Lead, you will manage and guide hardware development teams, ensuring the successful integration and evaluation of high-speed serial data communication products. Your responsibilities will include performing high-speed circuit simulations using tools such as HSPICE and Hyperlinx, generating PCB layout guidelines, and collaborating with external PCB layout service providers. You will also be responsible for board bring-up, working closely with firmware and logic engineers to ensure product functionality, and developing unit characterization tests, production tests, and integration tests to verify that products meet electrical and engineering specifications. In addition to technical responsibilities, you will support manufacturing and customer support teams on various issues, assist in EMC certification, and ensure that all products are designed to meet the highest standards of quality and performance. This position requires a strong leader who can mentor team members, foster collaboration, and drive innovation in hardware design.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead hardware development teams focusing on high speed serial data communication products.
  • Perform board and system level high speed digital circuit design, integration, and evaluation.
  • Conduct high speed circuit simulation using tools like HSPICE, Hyperlinx, ADS, and HFSS.
  • Generate PCB layout guidelines and collaborate with outside PCB layout service providers.
  • Perform board bring up and work with firmware/logic engineers to ensure product functionality.
  • Design and implement unit characterization tests, production tests, and integration tests.
  • Develop system and board level tests and test procedures to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to design product enclosures and cross-check electrical designs.
  • Work with logic and software teams for systems integration and issue resolution.
  • Support manufacturing and customer support on various issues.
  • Assist in EMC certification as necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of hands-on system/board level design experience in high-end, high-speed embedded platforms.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing/leading hardware development teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of high-speed design methodologies and simulation, including bus technologies such as PCIe, USB, SAS/SATA, and Ethernet.
  • Strong background in high-speed clock circuit design, implementation, and measurements.
  • Experience with high-speed simulation tools like HSpice and Hyperlinx.
  • Strong debugging skills, particularly in high-speed timing and jitter analysis.
  • Working knowledge of EMC/EMI control methods at PCB/component level.
  • Experience with schematic entry tools and high-speed test/measurement equipment.
  • Strong system development experience with a holistic approach.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
