About the position

The Hardware Engineer Program Manager II role at Microsoft involves leading technical hardware programs from requirements through to launch. This position is crucial for managing complex project schedules, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget while maintaining high quality. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and a deep understanding of product technical requirements to drive successful outcomes in cloud infrastructure and server development.

Responsibilities

  • Drive technical hardware program from requirement through launch, including managing complex project schedule, removing roadblocks, and keeping processes running smoothly.
  • Align key stakeholders and manage project through milestones to completion on schedule and in budget, with uncompromising quality.
  • Lead a virtual team of functional leads including members from hardware and software engineering, sourcing, supply chain, networking, and datacenter operation for documenting a clear Plan-of-Record (POR) for new product development.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the product technical requirements, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies for establishing an accurate and effective project infrastructure.
  • Leverage experience and engineering skills to solve problems, fill gaps, and achieve objectives through a cross-functional team.
  • Communicate and present program plan and status with management.
  • Navigate and skillfully lead others through complex, interrelated technical challenges and business issues to deliver impactful results.
  • Timely reporting of meaningful status and supporting details to senior leadership and other internal stakeholders.
  • Embody the company's culture and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in hardware engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Ability to meet customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 7+ years experience in hardware engineering, product/technical program management, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Knowledge of high-volume server design and manufacturing is desired.
  • Knowledge about datacenter & operation at scale is desired.
  • 5+ years experience managing end-to-end (E2E) hardware product development, preferably in cloud infrastructure hardware or server development.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management from new product introduction (NPI) to post-product launch with leadership, management, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
