About the position

The Hardware Engineer position involves managing systems administration, property and asset management, testing, and configuration management functions. The role requires ensuring the functionality and security of computer systems, overseeing property management processes, and supporting software testing and quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of servers and systems.
  • Maintain system documentation and interact with users to evaluate vendor products.
  • Coordinate hardware and software installation and provide backup recovery.
  • Monitor policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • Participate in systems testing and document results.
  • Provide advice and training to end-users and maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies.
  • Monitor IMS and report incidents with directives.
  • Monitor AMs/DMs to determine possible impacts to operations of services.
  • Monitor and clean-up orphaned tickets and enforce compliance of Incident Management Policy.
  • Maintain Incident Management policy and work to improve situational awareness.
  • Facilitate resolution of tickets older than 30 days and tasks for the Problem Management team.
  • Control, disseminate and monitor ticket queues and draft Service Maintenance/Outage/Restoral Announcements.
  • Facilitate the creation and submission of after-action reports for major incidents and outages when applicable.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Incident Managers and/or representatives from other contracts when necessary.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Develop and implement system improvements, processes, and procedures for property management.
  • Ensure timely receipt, acquisition, identification, documentation, maintenance, inventory, movement, and storage of property.
  • Ensure proper disposition of obsolete and excess assets and participate in physical inventories.
  • Support software testing, QA, and CM activities, reviewing and evaluating software products and systems.
  • Develop software/systems testing procedures and conduct tests.
  • Work with software developers and engineers to understand requirements and identify test scope and acceptance criteria for release components.
  • Follow QA release checklist and provide QA input to improve installation guides and general deployment documentation.

Requirements

  • Experience in systems administration and property/asset management.
  • Knowledge of software testing, quality assurance, and configuration management activities.
  • Ability to manage and secure computer systems effectively.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience in coordinating hardware and software installations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with incident management policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with software development processes and testing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of government and corporate property management standards.
