About the position

The Hardware Engineer position is a critical role within our engineering team, located in Irvine, CA, and offers a hybrid work environment. The primary responsibilities include deriving requirements from customer and company requests, generating flow down requirements for subassemblies, and providing technical guidance to various engineering disciplines including electrical, software, firmware, and mechanical engineering. The engineer will be responsible for generating and maintaining system-level documentation, which encompasses block diagrams, system-level acceptance test procedures (ATPs), interface documents, analysis reports, and user operational manuals. In addition to documentation, the Hardware Engineer will execute system integration and testing activities in the lab, which involves setting up test configurations and utilizing electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and programmable sources and loads. The role also requires running system-level ATPs in the lab, at external third-party test houses, and at customer sites. Close collaboration with the Senior Systems Engineer and Director of Engineering is essential to ensure that system design aligns with the overall architecture. The engineer will support technical reviews by preparing presentation materials and participating in various review meetings, including Kick Off Meetings, Systems Requirements Reviews, and Design Reviews. Effective communication of issues and potential solutions to both internal and external stakeholders is a key aspect of this role, ensuring that all parties are informed and aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Derive requirements from customer/company (IRAD) requirements/requests
  • Generate flow down requirements for subassemblies, vendors, or other disciplines
  • Provide technical guidance and support to electrical, software, firmware, and mechanical engineers
  • Generate and maintain System level documentation, including block diagrams, System level acceptance test procedures (ATPs), System level Interface Documents, System level analysis reports, and user operational manuals
  • Execute system integration and test activities in lab, including setting up test configurations and working with electrical test equipment
  • Run system level ATPs in lab, at external third-party test houses, and/or at customer sites
  • Work closely with Senior Systems Engineer and Director of Engineering to ensure that System design meets architecture
  • Support technical reviews by preparing slides, attending, and/or presenting
  • Clearly communicate issues and potential solutions to all internal/external stakeholders

Requirements

  • US Citizen
  • 5 - 10 years' experience preferred in a highly technical research and development, engineering and/or manufacturing environments or equivalent
  • Demonstrated competence in technical development and/or analysis of engineering application(s)
  • Lab experience with electrical test equipment like AC/DC sources, signal generators, programmable loads, oscilloscopes, power meters, multimeters, etc.
  • At least 3-5 years' exposure to leading technical projects
  • Experience with technically leading a multi-disciplinary team to fulfill customer requirements and company goals
  • Proficient at customer interfacing and building relationships centered around technical understanding and mission objectives
  • Competent with Microsoft Office suite (Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio, and Project)
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or technical equivalent (electrical engineering, computer science, applied physics, or applied mathematics)

Nice-to-haves

  • Model Based System engineering experience is a plus
  • Experience working closely with multiple disciplines such as electronics, mechanical, software and management
  • Experience with imaging processing, power management aerospace, defense, or medical products
