About the position

The Hardware Engineer position at Hitachi Astemo Americas, Inc. involves designing, developing, and validating automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs). The role requires collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to create advanced automotive technologies, fostering a culture of creativity and problem-solving. The engineer will be responsible for analyzing system requirements, modifying hardware designs, and supporting manufacturing teams to ensure successful production of hardware designs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and comprehend system requirements and customer needs.
  • Interface with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, customers, and vendors to discuss existing and potential new projects.
  • Modify existing hardware designs or create entirely new hardware to realize the desired operational and performance requirements.
  • Prepare block diagrams, detailed circuit schematics, and manage the PCB layout of hardware concepts and final designs.
  • Use technical and engineering acumen to perform the necessary analysis, simulation, and verification of analog and digital hardware and associated firmware.
  • Develop and manage test specifications and their execution.
  • Work with and thoroughly support manufacturing teams to release hardware designs into production.
  • Represent employer at customer meetings to explain or defend technical findings and technical recommendations.
  • Evaluate and investigate products and recommend repair or design modifications based on requirements, cost, company resources, and capabilities.
  • Design and coordinate the fabrication and configuration of laboratory test equipment for hardware testing.
  • Assist root cause analysis and corrective action for hardware and software components and products.
  • Attend training to learn new tools and methodologies and keep up to date on market and technical trends.
  • Create and strive towards a positive work environment by demonstrating and sharing functional and technical knowledge.
  • Perform any other assignments from time-to-time as management so directs.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in electrical engineering with appropriate coursework focus.
  • 0 - 3 years of hands-on experience in automotive ECU design and development environment.
  • Thorough understanding of analog and digital hardware as applied to automotive control systems.
  • Understanding of EMC specifications and EMC mitigation techniques.
  • Proficient in setting up and using laboratory test equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Fluent in written and verbal communication in English.
  • Ability to read and make electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Programming and data acquisition experience using National Instruments Labview ecosystem.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous use of MathCAD for Worst Case Analysis is desirable.
  • Use of Vector CAN toolchain is highly desirable.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or equivalent tool chain.
  • Perform circuit analysis and simulation using LTSpice or similar SPICE based tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
