About the position

The Hardware Engineer position at Westinghouse Electric Company involves working collaboratively with a team to support the design and delivery of Instrumentation & Control (I&C) cabinets and related electro-mechanical hardware components. The role includes issuing design documentation, managing Bill of Materials, compiling technical documentation, and ensuring compliance with quality requirements. The engineer will also interface with various engineering organizations and support customers with technical issues, all while adhering to project schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Support the hardware design and delivery of Instrumentation & Control (I&C) cabinets and associated electro-mechanical hardware components.
  • Issue hardware design documentation such as cabinet or panel layout drawings, cable & wiring schematics, and PCB layout/schematics for I&C products.
  • Manage Bill of Materials and revision control of design packages.
  • Compile technical and quality documentation for procurement, design, testing, and manufacturing of I&C hardware products.
  • Work closely with manufacturing operations to resolve issues and ensure products meet specifications.
  • Ensure hardware designs and project documentation meet applicable system & quality requirements.
  • Interface with engineering organizations and third-party test facilities in conducting equipment qualification tests.
  • Perform engineering calculations in support of design or analysis of products.
  • Support resolution of technical issues including obsolescence.
  • Support development of test procedures and execution of functional tests.
  • Provide support to customers for installation and emergent technical issues.
  • Travel to customer and supplier sites (domestic and international) as needed.
  • Execute assignments independently within project schedule and budgetary requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit analysis/design.
  • Knowledge of typical industry standard drawings including P&ID drawings, loop diagrams, schematics, cabinet drawings, and panel layouts.
  • Knowledge of field devices and control devices typical to the power industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of lab equipment use (oscilloscope, multimeter, function generator, etc.).
  • Experience in CAD/CAE (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical/Inventor) software is desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Experience with Data acquisition systems consisting of servers, workstations, controllers, and Input/Output modules preferred.
  • Experience with Emerson Ovation control systems preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team including engineering, testing, manufacturing, supply chain management, and suppliers.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Data acquisition systems consisting of servers, workstations, controllers, and Input/Output modules preferred.
  • Experience with Emerson Ovation control systems preferred.
