About the position

The Hardware Engineer at Online Development, Inc. (OLDI) plays a crucial role in a multi-disciplinary team focused on designing, implementing, and delivering innovative systems and solutions for the industrial automation market. This position emphasizes creativity, autonomy, and collaboration, allowing the engineer to have a significant impact on product development and enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure on-time releases of new designs and existing product changes
  • Generate design plans for new product offerings and enhance existing products based on new business objectives
  • Design, test, troubleshoot, and document product solutions
  • Develop schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and complete assemblies
  • Support Supply Chain sourcing and component selections
  • Build and test prototypes for new product development
  • Utilize verification and validation methods to demonstrate designs meet all design requirements with attention to quality and regulatory requirements
  • Support testing via 3rd party test facilities
  • Determine root cause for complex issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions
  • Provide technical support to Test and Manufacturing departments
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to team members

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Two to five years of experience in related engineering field with electronic design, product development, and manufacturing release experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills
  • Team leader willing to take on assignments that are not always within core competency
  • Experienced in designing, debugging, and supporting analog/digital circuits as well as real-time embedded electronics for both microprocessor-based, FPGA/CPLD and DSP hardware platforms
  • Solid understanding of the PCB fabrication process
  • Proficient in using schematic diagram development tools (e.g., ORCAD, PADS, Altium), PC board layout tools (e.g., ORCAD, PADS, Altium), and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE)
  • Working knowledge of fundamental PCB layout concepts especially regarding EMC and ESD
  • Skilled at using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and processor emulators/debuggers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint
  • Experienced in product certification activities (e.g., CE, UL, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Firmware development experience including HDL design
  • Industrial automation product development, Rockwell Automation experience is a plus
  • Experienced in designing functional safety products in accordance with IEC 61508
  • Experienced in designing secure products in accordance with IEC 62443
  • Proficiency in the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP)
  • Familiar with industrial automation protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, etc.
  • Experienced in leading engineering projects and teams
