About the position

The Applied R&D Engineer conducts target-oriented research to directly apply findings to the specification, design, further development, and incremental improvement of products, services, systems, tools, processes, etc. This role is integral to the Digital Hardware (DHA) subfamily, which focuses on the specification, design, and implementation of digital hardware, particularly baseband hardware. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that design targets such as low cost, high yield, and high reliability are met. The digital boards designed will be high-density boards with numerous components, including high-speed connections and high-precision reference clocks. This position requires a strong understanding of both digital and analogue design, as well as simulation capabilities. In this role, you will engage in ultra high-speed PCB circuit design, simulation, and design verification testing. The position demands self-starters who can manage complex board design from concept through to release for production. You will collaborate with a highly motivated team of engineering professionals and will be personally responsible for driving your designs and PCBs through the entire process. A working knowledge of all aspects of board bring-up, debugging, and testing in a hardware lab environment is essential. Responsibilities

  • Conduct target-oriented research to apply findings to product and system design.
  • Manage complex board design from concept through release to production.
  • Engage in ultra high-speed PCB circuit design and simulation.
  • Perform design verification testing for hardware components.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineering professionals to drive designs through the process.
  • Utilize oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital debug tools in the design process.
  • Ensure compliance with design targets such as cost, yield, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Practical understanding of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital debug tools.
  • Experience in high-speed digital design, schematic capture, and PCB layout design methodologies.
  • Familiarity with VHDL is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field is a plus.
  • Experience with high-density digital boards and high-speed connections.
