About the position

As a Hardware Engineer at Coherent Corp., you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing innovative laser control solutions, as well as laser sensor and meter systems. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire design process, from the initial concept phase through to the transfer to production. You will be tasked with analyzing and simulating critical circuits, ensuring that the hardware design meets the desired performance, cost, and delivery schedule. This position requires a collaborative approach, as you will work closely with engineering team members to evaluate the operational and performance requirements of the overall system. In addition to design responsibilities, you will document your designs with thorough theory of operation documents and participate in technical reviews. You will also develop functional and verification tests to validate and assess the quality of your designs. Providing support and design updates for legacy products will be part of your role, as well as working closely with firmware and software engineers to validate and debug designs. Your ability to work well both as a team member and independently will be crucial, as will your capacity to provide regular task status updates and mentor junior engineers. This position is not only about technical skills; it also requires strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization. You will need to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism while demonstrating excellent organizational, planning, presentation, troubleshooting, and multi-tasking skills. The fast-paced environment will require you to prioritize tasks and remain flexible to adapt to changing demands.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new laser control solutions, as well as laser sensor and meter systems.
  • Analyze and simulate critical circuits.
  • Document designs with thorough theory of operation documents.
  • Responsible for designs from concept phase to transfer to production.
  • Analyze system requirements to determine if the hardware design will meet the desired performance, cost and delivery schedule.
  • Work with engineering team members to evaluate operational and performance requirements of overall system.
  • Participate in technical reviews.
  • Develop functional and verification tests to validate and assess quality of designs.
  • Provide support and design updates for legacy products.
  • Work closely with FW and SW engineers to validate and debug designs.
  • Work well as team member and independently.
  • Provide regular task status updates.
  • Participate in mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

  • 15+ years hardware development experience with analog instrumentation and digital processing designs.
  • Experience with embedded microcontroller system designs.
  • Strong analog circuit design skills.
  • Experience with local bus interface design - PCIe, SPI, I2C, CAN, etc.
  • Experience with Altium design tools for schematic entry and PCB layout.
  • Familiar with C/C++ or Python to develop, test and debug embedded system designs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate professionally across the organization.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, presentation, troubleshooting, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • MSEE degree is a plus.
